Mount and Go

admin - Posted on 18 July 2009

My parents mairriet me owre young
To an auld carle baith bald and dumb
His love was done and mine new sprung,
An' I'll fly the plains wi'my laddie-o.

Chorus:
Come bonnie laddie, mount and go,
Hey bonnie laddie, mount and go,
Come bonnie laddie, mount and go
Mount, an' I'll gang wi' ye-o.

And I will leave my guid peat-stack
Sae wid I guid kailyard,
Sae wid I auld bald laird,
An' fly the plains wi' my laddie-o.

Well the auld man he fell fast asleep,
An' oot o' his airms she quickly did creep,
The keys o' the cabin she did keep,
And she's flown the plains wi' her laddie-o.

And ye'll gang doon to yon sea-shoe,
An' ye see a ship faur she was before,
Ask at the skipper if she's been there,
Or if any o' the sailors saw her-o.

One day they were sailing' on the sea,
She drank their health right merrily,
She threw the wine-glass into the sea,
For the joy she had won wi' her laddie-o.

And when they landed owre the lea,
She was lady o' fify ploughs an' three,
A lady o' fify ploughs an' three,
An' she dearly loves her laddi-o.
